Privacy Policy

Last updated:

AlexLab is a personal website operated by Alex Bănică, based in the Netherlands. It presents my professional background and may feature technical articles and personal projects.

This policy explains how I handle personal information when you visit alexlab.nl or contact me.

For privacy questions or requests, email contact@alexlab.nl.

Contact form

When you submit the contact form, I receive the name, email address and message you provide. I use this information to respond to your enquiry and manage related correspondence.

The legal basis is my legitimate interest in receiving and answering enquiries. Where your message concerns a potential agreement, processing may instead be necessary to take steps at your request before entering into that agreement.

Please avoid including sensitive personal information unless necessary for your enquiry.

Email delivery and storage

Contact-form messages are sent through a personal Gmail account using Google’s Gmail API. Google processes email addresses, message content and associated technical information to provide email delivery.

The website also uses Post SMTP, which stores email logs in the WordPress database. These logs may include email addresses, message content and technical delivery information. The log is limited to 250 entries, so older entries may be removed as new entries are added.

Copies delivered to my mailbox are stored separately.

Google may process email information outside the European Economic Area. Information about Google’s processing and international transfer arrangements is available in Google’s Privacy Policy and its data-transfer information.

Visitor statistics

AlexLab uses the self-hosted Post Views Counter plugin to count page views. Viewing statistics are stored within the website’s WordPress database.

I use these statistics to understand which content visitors read. The legal basis, where personal information is processed, is my legitimate interest in understanding website usage.

Automatic cleanup is disabled, so aggregate viewing statistics remain until manually removed.

Technical server logs

The website is self-hosted in the Netherlands. Its servers record technical information, including IP addresses, requested pages, timestamps, browser information and referring pages where supplied by your browser.

I use this information to operate the website, diagnose problems and investigate misuse. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in maintaining a secure and functioning website.

How long I keep information

Contact messages and related correspondence are manually deleted within one year after the last exchange.

Email delivery logs stored in WordPress are manually deleted within one year. The maximum of 250 entries may cause them to be removed sooner.

Technical server logs and backup copies are retained for no longer than one year. Deleted information may remain in existing backups until those backups expire.

Aggregate page-view statistics are retained until manually removed.

Information may be retained longer where necessary to meet a legal obligation or establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

Sharing personal information

I do not sell your personal information.

Information is processed by the services involved in delivering and storing email, as described above. Information may also be disclosed where required by law or where necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

Your privacy rights

Depending on the circumstances and applicable law, you may:

  • Request access to your personal information.
  • Request correction of inaccurate information.
  • Request deletion of your information.
  • Request restriction of processing.
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Request a portable copy of your information where that right applies.
  • Withdraw consent where processing relies on it, without affecting earlier lawful processing.

To make a request, email contact@alexlab.nl. I may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify your identity. I normally respond within one month. If an extension is permitted and necessary, I will explain why within that month.

You may also lodge a complaint with the Dutch supervisory authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

Changes to this policy

I may update this policy when the website or its data practices change. The latest version will appear on this page, with the revision date shown above.
